Founder & Director, Guria
Ajeet Singh pioneered Guria, an NGO in India which works towards eradicating human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and children, in 1988, when he adopted three children of a woman from a red light area. This milestone is astonishing as Ajeet was only 17 years old, and even now for the past 16 years he has been living with the Bedia community who are involved in family based prostitution.
Guria has fulfilled the absence of an organisation in India that combats trafficking and sexual exploitation since its inception 28 years ago, through innovations and a holistic grass-roots approach to fight an issue as complex and criminalised as sex slavery. Ajeet’s journey has been full of social discrimination and attacks including towards his family and staff, but undauntedly he has succeeded in creating a model strategy to fight sex trafficking.
