Director of Legal Services at Associated British Foods, with responsibility for Primark’s Ethical Trade Team
Paul is responsible for Primark’s CSR and ethical trade strategy and for establishing Primark’s Ethical Trade & Environmental Sustainability team. He is also responsible for CSR at ABF, Primark’s parent company. Today, the Primark Ethical Trade team comprises more than 75 people based in key sourcing countries. As part of Primark’s ethical trade strategy, Paul has announced a number of key moves – most recently the start of a new partnership with the Department for International Development (DFID) to improve working conditions for garment workers in developing markets. Primark has also extended the Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme, an initiative with CottonConnect and the Self Employed Women’s Association in Gujarat, India, to train 10,000 female smallholders in sustainable farming methods. Primark has been a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative since 2006, and achieved ETI Leadership in 2011; ranking it in the top five per cent of member brands. Primark is also a member of Germany’s Textilbündnis and a founder member of ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation).
Prior to joining ABF in January 2001, Paul was formerly Associate General Counsel of Diageo plc. He holds a law Degree from University College London and is a qualified solicitor in England & Wales.
