Islamic Relief Mali
Aissa is a humanitarian and human rights defender. The political situation in Mali has been a wake-up call for her to step up and tackle issues affecting children and women who are victims of war and atrocities. For five years at Islamic Relief, she has worked hard to improve the livelihoods of orphans, women, vulnerable and disabled people in local communities, helping them to recover their lost hopes and dignity. Through her work, more than 3,000 orphans and vulnerable children have been sponsored and given access to essential services and opportunities, including education and psychological support, in order to remove them from poverty. Being a social change agent means everything to her. In 2016, she was selected as a Fellow to participate in the Mandela Washington Fellowship for the Young African Leaders Initiative, a flagship programme of Barack Obama, and received a Certificate in Civic Leadership in recognition of her work. Aissa has an excellent capacity for education and has benefited from the Algerian Scholarship, which is offered to the best Malian students. Through the scholarship, she obtained her bachelor's degree in English.
