Jordanian Entrepreneur & Preventing Violent Extremism Expert
Suleiman Bakhit is a Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) and Heroism Social Systems expert. Described by the New York Times as a real life “action hero”, Bakhit focuses his work on Countering & Preventing violent extremism (CVE/PVE) narratives and mythology. He pioneered the use of Heroism as an antidote to Violent Extremism. Bakhit was the first to develop Heroism as an alternative narrative to extremism by creating stories and Heroes based on narratives of hope, tolerance, healthy shame, gender equality, and acceptance of the other. In 2016 Bakhit launched the HEROMAKERS Initiative, the largest PVE and Heroism initiative in the world in Jordan. His comics have been classified as text books by the Ministry of Education, and are currently being distributed to kids in all the schools in Jordan on an annual Basis. To date Bakhit has published approx. 2M comics to more than 4500 schools in Jordan making him the biggest publisher of comic books in the region. His comics have been read by more than 6M youth over the last few years. Bakhit is currently developing a female hero based comic book to be distributed as a text book next year. Furthermore, Bakhit is developing a series of sports comics for publication in schools next year. During the Libyan revolution in 2011, Bakhit led a humanitarian initiative that provided thousands of injured Libyan civilians access to urgent medical care in Jordan. Bakhit is also a well known philanthropist in Jordan. His initiative Amani fulfills wishes of terminally ill children (especially cancer patients). He has fulfilled more than 50 wishes and has been named Donor of the Year at the King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan for this initiative. Bakhit is a thought leader and an international speaker on CVE/PVE speaking at the White House CVE summit, World Economic Forum, TED, Oslo Freedom Forum, “THE” conference and NY Comicon . Bakhit is also TED fellow and a 2016 WEF Young Global Leader.
