Programme Consultant, HAART Kenya
Sophie Otiende is a feminist, teacher and survivor advocate of human trafficking. She works for HAART (Raising Awareness Against Human Trafficking) Kenya, which is the only organisation in Kenya focusing exclusively on counter-trafficking work. She is responsible for setting up the systems of the protection department within HAART Kenya and coordination of support given to survivors of trafficking. The protection department assists an average of two hundred survivors annually and also has a shelter dedicated to young girls between the age of 6-18 that have gone through human trafficking. Sophie is passionate about women, specifically survivors, and the power of storytelling in ensuring their healing and empowerment. She is the author of three manuals focusing on human trafficking and protection of survivors of human trafficking.
