Executive Director, Shakti Samuha
Sunita Danuwar, a leading Social Activist, became a victim of human trafficking when she was only 14 years. Together with fourteen girls, originally from Nepal and all rescued from brothels in India, she established an organization, Shakti Samuha "Power Group" in 1996. This is the one of the first anti-human trafficking organization established and run solely by trafficking survivors in the world. Danuwar is a Counselor, Program Director, President and currently the Executive Director of Shakti Samuha.
Due to her dedication against human trafficking, she has been honored by national and international honors and awards such as the 2015 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award in Taiwan, C10 (Child10) Award 2014 in Sweden and Women Leadership Achievement Award 2015 in India. Danuwar also received honors and awards as a president on behalf of Shakti Samuha.
Shakti Samuha has been awarded with prestigious award- Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2013, French Republic Human Rights Award in 2015 and also honored by Women, Children and Social Welfare Ministry in Nepal.
