Founder & Director of Shiva Foundation
Meenal is Head of Sustainability at Shiva Hotels and Founder and Director of Shiva Foundation, a corporate foundation working to prevent human trafficking and slavery in the UK. She is spearheading the thinking behind how the hotel industry (and business in general) can leverage its power and influence to create an anti-trafficking movement that has the resources and capacity to fight human trafficking. Working with the hotel industry itself, she has created a dynamic model that seeks to tackle human trafficking across supply chains, within recruitment and in local communities. In partnership with Thomson Reuters Foundation, Shiva Foundation has also convened leading hoteliers to discuss how the industry can combat human trafficking and set agreed actions to make that happen.
In addition to her work with business, Meenal leads a team at Shiva Foundation which seeks to address the systemic elements of human trafficking, focusing on working in communities to provide education and individual empowerment, which she believes play a key role in driving social change in any sector. In line with this thinking, Meenal also founded the Women for Change network, a collaborative project that supports professional women to change their world by directly engaging with the social impact sector.
Meenal is the first Indian woman to be elected Local Councillor in Hertsmere. She sits on the Licensing and Policy Review Committees and works closely with the Council to implement a comprehensive strategy to address safeguarding issues, specifically violence against women and girls and human trafficking.
Meenal’s career has always focused on socially conscious work. Prior to her work with Shiva, she co-founded Connect India, a charity set up to empower young Indians through youth leadership and service-oriented programmes. Meenal is also involved with a range of social impact activities and enterprises.
