President, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies & Italian Red Cross
Francesco Rocca is the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent. Mr. Rocca was born in 1965 in Rome and is a lawyer by profession. He started his career with his own law firm. In 2003, he moved to the health administrative sector and was the Director of St. Andrea Hospital, headed the Department of Social Affairs of the City of Rome and until recently the General Director of a Dermatological Hospital. Mr. Rocca joined the Italian Red Cross in 2008 when he was asked to lead the change process of the Italian Red Cross and transform the structure from a public-sector organisation to a private volunteer-based organisation. The change process has been massive and today it works under a new umbrella guided by volunteers. Mr Rocca was elected president of this new structure in 2013. In 2009, when the Italian Red Cross was elected member of the IFRC Governing Board, Mr. Rocca was the appointed representative. In 2013, he was elected Vice President and in 2017 he was elected President of the IFRC.
