Melanie Cheary

Melanie Cheary was a Foreign Correspondent and News Editor for Reuters News Agency for 14 years covering Africa and Europe. In her journalism career, she wrote extensively about economics, politics and social issues. She reported on the war in Congo, the war crimes tribunal in The Hague, major financial companies, and commodity and capital markets.

Melanie has considerable experience in developing and delivering training programmes in journalism and media relations for the Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) whose clients include the IMF, the World Bank, the Global Leadership Academy and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Her recent editorial consulting work includes annual, taxation and sustainability reports for multinational corporations, as well financial inclusion and entrepreneurship documentaries and case studies for civil society organisations. She also writes thought leadership blogs for business and community leaders.

A South African and British citizen, Melanie has a BA in Classics and an MBA. She speaks Afrikaans, German and Dutch.
